How It All Started...
Retreat originated when chapter member Leila Davis suggested to our first chapter advisor (now called president), Margo Hoornstra that "we should have a pajama party because we never have enough time to talk at a meeting." The idea snowballed and the first Retreat From Harsh Reality was born.

It earned a profit of $20.
The first Retreat was held at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

The Mid-Michigan Chapter of Romance Writers of America (MMRWA) was formed in 1984 to serve Central and Western Michigan writers of romantic fiction. Its purpose is to promote excellence in romantic fiction, to help writers become published and establish careers in their writing field, and to provide continuing support for writers within the romance publishing industry.
MMRWA is a not-for-profit professional writers' association and an affiliated chapter of Romance Writers of America® (RWA® ).
The 2015 quilt was designed and made by Dawn Bartley. Proceeds from the quilt raffle goes to the YWCA Domestic Abuse Program. This year's design featured book covers from Mid-Michigan Romance Writer's of America authors from the last 30 years. What an incredible masterpiece in honor of our anniversary. Thank you, Dawn!
